This past weekend, the Institute of Automotive Performance held their first Introduction to Tuning Basics (EFI) under the new format. This 2-day weekend course, delves into the basics of tuning and the explains the components that are used. This course is designed to give those interested in the automotive performance field a little more information into tuning. This course is a prerequsite for IAP's more advanced tuning courses. This first course was taught by Jason Oefelein, a founder of IAP. Jason has an extensive background in the automotive performance field and is willing to share his knowledge with eager pupils.
The Intro course is mainly comprised of a lecture section that talks about the fundamentals.
On the dyno, we have a 2007 Mazdaspeed3. It has a turbocharged 2.3L inline 4 under the hood. The client brought his car down to get a tune using a Cobb AccessPort. Before the tune, the Mazda was putting down 263whp and 289 ft-lbs of torque. After the tune, the car made 279 whp and 307 ft-lbs of torque.
On the Dyno: we have a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle. This Chevelle is powered by a small-block Chevy 350 with "old school" turbo heads.
This setup produces 330 whp and 357 ft-lbs of torque.

We are starting to write about this 1961 Cadillac project to catch you up on where it currently stands. This project is the current undertaking of our main fabricator, Alex Laventure. With over 20 years of experience in fabrication, this project looks like it will be something very special.
This project started so quickly, we do not have many initial photos. Alex has put in a lot of work so far and the project is well on its way.
On their first visit to PSI, Garage Autohero brought down a few cars to be tuned. One such car was this SR20 powered Nissan S13 240SX.
Recently a client brought in a 2010 Nissan 370Z convertible for an Invidia cat-back exhaust installation and tune. After the exhaust was installed the car was strapped down on the dyno for Jason Oefelein to tune it using the UpRev Osiris tuning solution. After the tune, the 370Z put down 303 whp and 251 ft-lbs of torque.
Here is the video of the run:
Here is a link to the dyno archive record for this car.

Ray and the guys from Garage Autohero came down last Saturday for a tuning session at PSI. They brought down a couple of cars that they recently finished up. A Nissan S13 powered by an SR20 and a Nissan 300ZX also powered by an SR20.

Loren Haleston and Kyle Pollard have been spotted at PSI, again. They were both here last weekend for some kart racing.
This time they were here to make a different type of video. For the 2012 Drift season, Kyle Pollard, a professional driver competing in Formula Drift, will be documenting his journey.
We recently finished up the exhaust for an LS3 in a Datsun 280Z.
This Datsun is being built for one of our clients in California. The LS3 was not pulled from a Corvette or any other car but was shipped from the factory. It is an E-Rod version, which is CARB legal. This one fact is the reason it was chosen for this project. The LS3 also came with catalytic converters to be fitted onto the exhaust system. These cats made it a little more challenging than a normal race exhaust system to route.
We are proud to present our new website. If you are reading this, you are already on our new site. But, here is the home page anyway,
The PSI Celica Project car has been disassembled. The engine and interior have been removed. This was all in preparation for the roll cage.
We plan to take this Celica to jump it and drive it like crazy, so an ordinary roll cage would not do.

Recently we have been checking out Autemo.com. It is the website for an Australia based Automotive design studio. While browsing through their many great images, we noticed a few of the Skyline. We think it is really cool that they liked the Skyline enough to use it as a base for their artwork.
Here are few samples,
The weather this weekend was sunny and unlike a normal winter day in Oregon.
During the week, we spent some time getting our karts ready for a weekend of racing. However, we learned late on Friday afternoon that Pat's Acres Racing Complex would be closed. This has been the track of choice for us because of its close proximity. Rather than cancel karting for the weekend, we decided to just go to the shop.
Above: Kyle Pollard was ready for serious racing. Jason Oefelein, John Reed, and Adam also came down to race.
